Hamachi Patch for AOE 3 (all versions) and AOM
It was some time ago I wrote the original tutorial on how to make Age of Empires 3 work with a freeware Virtual Private Networking (VPN) program called Hamachi. There have been many questions about where to find the AOE3VPN.exe patch referenced in the tutorial, with some readers were to find it from the supplied Google search bar.
The good news is that a much-improved patch is available from Crea-Doo:

Version 1.63 of the Age of Empires loader makes the startup even easier by providing a GUI to select between using a Hamachi IP address and the public address. Override ports, sound settings, bypassing the intro video and direct IP connectivity can also be toggled. Best of all, support is not limited to basic Age of Empires III. The following “Age of …” games are supported:
Age of Mythology
Age of Mythology – The Titans
Age of Empires III
Age of Empires III – The War Chiefs
Age of Empires III – The Asian Dynasties
Age of Empires III – Napoleonic Era (mod)
A quick test with the new Asian Dynasties expansion booted to the menu screen without the intro video and connected to Hamachi effortlessly. Age of Mythology is no longer on this system but I’d be interested to hear if anyone has luck connecting Hamachi to the notoriously picky game.

I have tried this many times, but my local ip is showing, not the hamachi ip when I have hostet a game!! what have I done wrong=

It does show the alternate IP (hamachi) on the person who tries to host it.

Yesterday we tried (and succeeded) using the first method without the loader, (disable internet, open aomx, enable ) and we managed to get into the game by typing the hamachi address on the IP slot, even though the server didnt appear on the list.

I’m trying to play AOM:T via Hamachi, but we always get stuck on 120s countdown. We both got alternate IP set for Hamachi(5.*.*.*). We are able to chat over hamachi.
Any suggestion what to do?

hello, im trying to connect with my friend over hamachi. ( both of us are behind routers) we try to connect with this loader. i host a game. he uses direct IP connect. writes my hamachi IP. “Connect” and nothing. time out goes 10 seconds and No server found or failed to connect. please help
I have a problem with Age of empire 3 that doesnt dectect my hamachi ip when i host a LAN game, i tried the loader, i tried adding “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires III\age3.exe” + OverrideAddress=”5.77.37.28″ and it still doesnt work.

If all else fails, try this:
1) Start Hamachi
2) Disable all network connections except Hamachi
3) Start the game
4) Select to host a game. Verify that Hamachi address appears
5) Minimize game to return to windows environment. Re-enable other network connections
6) Return to game and continue play
You should only have to do this once. Hamachi should automatically pick up after that.

Hi there! i installed hamachi, use this loader but i still have problems with connections. Me and my girlfriend tried to play, but she got those 120 seconds and nothing happened. She’s behind a router. We’ve also tried with this last instructions. We’ve disabled internet connections, ran the game with loader, then reconnected to internet…i was hosting the game she tried to connect by typing my hamachi ip in the direct ip box….then she get that 120 sec. error. We’ve tried to connect each other(through direct i.p.) without internet conenction but then wasnt even that 120 seconds. when we’ve disabled internet connection i had 2 ip’s to choose in that loader. That means that i should disable a network of my ehernet card to(it was automatically created when i installed the card)? i hope you’ll understand this vulgar english of mine:D Best wishes and a happy new year!

open your game, and host one.
your ip will showed on alternate ip.

I am tring toplay with a friend AOE3 the normal game not anyexpansion..but he cant conect to my game…:( i dont know why
me and my freind tried all of this with AOM and AOM:Titans…nothing.. we get the hamachi IPs as alternates.. but we timeout at 120 seconds.. any suggestions?
we are able to chat on hamachi and all that, and i even see his game lisetd on LAN games when he hosts, although he says mine never shows up on his comp when I host

I have a question, i’m playing Age of Empires 2 and i tried over Hamachi too, and didn’t work, so my question is , if this patch can do the same stuff for Age of Empires 2? Another thing to mention is that i have a wireless router too, so? I’m waiting answers, thanks.
Hey Blink, I’m playing Age of Mythology The Titans and I started it up with hamachi open and i went to check my ip and it showed my local one
so i tried using the loader and it showed my local ip and then my hamachi one for the alternate ip. So then i got my friend to try and it didn’t work. So i told him to get the loader also and he it showed the alternate ip for him to so then we tried but we got stuck at the 120seconds and i also tried disable all network except hamachi and it still didn’t work. Got any idea?

Some info on what we have:
-we are all in the same hamachi network and we’re able to chat through it with no problems.
-we get the hamachi IPs as alternatives (on the HOST GAME screen in aom)
- we all did the OverideAdresse-thingy, so we can all see our hamachi ip’s with no problems
-yet we always get the 120sec timeout.
-we tried turning off our firewalls, yet the result is the same.
..please help

2) Disable all network connections except Hamachi
3) Start the game
4) Select to host a game. Verify that Hamachi address appears
5) Minimize game to return to windows environment. Re-enable other network connections
6) Return to game and continue play
But, when my connection comes back, I get an error, so I open again and my ip (not the hamachi one) is there again and again… =/

Me and my friend decided we wanted to fire up some AOM-Titans on a little lan we have here. Most games work swimmingly, I connect with an ethernet cord on port one and he hooks up with port two and we don’t even have the linksys router hooked up to the internet at all.
However, while AOM-Titans allows us to see each other’s games [we both attempted to host] it is unplayable in its lag. We are sitting right next to each other and we can run the game fine in single player, but as soon as we try to play on the LAN it loads the map slowly and then freezes in game for 30 second bursts, plays half a second of game and then freezes again. Over and over.
I have been reading up on all this crazy port forwarding mojo and VPN programs, I was just wondering if this was normal or not? We are both behind the same router, should this really be happening? If you got any help I’d be glad to hear it.
As an aside: we are all patched up. AOM 1.10 and AOM-T 1.03, we are using his CD keys and just swapping out the CD to initialize the program.

could some 1 please help me with aom titans me and my friend are on hamachi we both can talk and connect across it with telnet we both put hamachi as top network priority we both see the alternative ip and it is out hamachi ip’s when we try to connect we always end up with the 120 time out count down I really want to play

Hey all thanks for the help blink, umm i still cant seem to play AOM with friends via LAN/Direct IP, i always get a 15 second time out and i am not behind any firewalls or routers from what i know, any help would be appreciated, thankyou.
we keep receiving the “out of sync” error after about 15 seconds into the started game. any help?
Hello, me and my friend Diego found out how to work out hamachi with aom again.
We used to play normally using the steps
1) Start Hamachi
2) Disable all network connections except Hamachi
3) Start the game
4) Select to host a game. Verify that Hamachi address appears
5) Minimize game to return to windows environment. Re-enable other network connections
6) Return to game
7) join in by typing the hamahci ip
but we encountered a problem, it wouldn’t work….!!
So he did some digging up and found out that hamachis latest version is having some problems, so we both got 1.0.11 and doidng the above steps it works perfect ^^ you can get it form filehippo!!

i followed the above steps and it didn’t work. My friend couldn’t connect to my network.
And then when he hosted it with same directions / stuff as me, i could connect to his network. How does this work?
Btw great job on finding out how all of this works somehow.
I have been doing this kind of thing for all the games in the “Age” series.
So far, I can say that the only ones that worked were AOE2 and 3 (after MUCH toil). AOM and AOE1 (along with any games using the generic AOE1 setup, it’s common in old Microsoft games), just don’t work. At all, no success.
If anyone comes up with some kind of miracle cure, I’d be glad to know.
I used this site for AOE2, in case anyone wants to know. It’s called Gamepark.eu, just google it. AOE3 worked with ip changer and such.
